[BUSINESS] mysql upgrade question
My server sent me an email (automatic) just now, it says login to cpanel to upgrade the mysql version.
So I asked my host techs what I have to do they were nice about it said I have
'Currently installed: 5.6.43
you want us to upgrade it to MySQL 5.7 or MariaDB 10.3 "
Not sure since I have no idea what the latter one is, what do you say i tell them to upgrade it to.

Your current version will not expire till 2021 so no rush think about which new version you want added to the server

you took the words right out of my mouth
Upgrading might cause some scripts not to work, check what version your scripts require
In all my time I have always used mysql and see no reason to switch now.

MariaDB is not new, it has been around since the first release in 2009

I'm using Maria. Basically the same thing. I can't remember all the details but the reason Maria came about is there was some concern about mySQL future availability. For free that is. Google it. Why Maria? The guy named it after his kid. If you do upgrade it, you might want to bump up your mySQL to the most current version 1st before you leap. It's easy to do in WHM if you run cPanel.

Did you have to rename any entries in WP for the location of the database?HeidiHoe wrote: ↑March 14th, 2019, 5:33 pmI'm using Maria. Basically the same thing.
