Not tried webm yet but that's next on the list

Im guessing webm is probably not as critical as webp since the browser doesnt download the whole video file (like it does with webp images) and instead downloads a small portion and streams it

there lots of arguments... im not switching... i think i said this in here already.
Browser support

One of the downsides of WebP is that the format is not supported by every browser. The image below shows which browsers support and which do not support WebP. As can be seen in the image, there are also browsers who partially support the new format. With that said, throughout the years more and more browsers are supporting WebP, this is also why the format has gained more popularity. Now, 94.08% of the total users on the internet can see WebP images. When using WebP images, it’s important to know which browsers your users mainly use.

Dont know where you got those numbers from. WebP has 97.03% browser coverage at the moment. See https://caniuse.com/webp

The only browsers that dont support it are things like IE which went end of life nearly 10 years ago. Nobody uses that anymore

The way I see it, youve basically got 2 choices.
  • 1. Switch to WebP and see your website fly off the page for over over 97.03% of your users. AND at the same time get a BIG SEO boost (page load speed is now a high ranking factor with google)
OR
  • 2. Stay as you are using slow .jpg, .gifs or .pngs just to accomdate the the 2.7% of users who still havent upgraded from IE11. And you will loose google traffic because your competitors all have much faster sites than you
If you want any more proof, just test your website speed at https://pagespeed.web.dev/ and see the recomendations that google comes back with. One will almost certainly be "serve your images in next gen format" ie webp.
