As much as bus drivers should be sanctioned for driving a bus or a teacher for going to school teaching kids. He's a journalist guess what journalists do, they interview people. Oliver Stone and others have interviewed Putin in the past. How is that even democratic or freedom of press if you jail people for doing interviews. I have never heard anything so ridiculous in my life.

I dont believe he should be sanctioned or jailed but its funny you should mention the freedom of the press as that is the one thing that Putin has totally crushed in Russia. He's already jailed Wall Street journalist Evan Gershkovich and rejected all appeals for his release. Its a glaring contradiction that a representative of the western free press should now interview the one man who does not believe in a free press ???

I don't know about the press in Russia so I will not comment, my point is not about Russia or Putin. What I am saying is, one of the principles of a democratic country is free speech and a free press, if we start targeting journalists with sanctions or prison for reporting the news or doing interviews we will lose that right and become a dictatorship.Do you agree with me?

Yep I totally agree with that statement. The corner stone of a democracy is a free press (even thought we know they often spin things out of all proportion for their own ends lol)

My point is that Russia does not have a free press. Putin is prepared to lock up a reporter that criticises him but welcomes a reported that he knows will be kind to him. It just seems strange that Tucker Carlson, who stands for freedom of the press, should now want abandon his beliefs and give this man air time

Moshye Dayan is quoted as saying. "If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies."

If we consider Putin our enemy it helps to hear what he has to say, how else can we make peace. Hearing what is in his mind might help resolve the Ukraine war for start.

We'll see if the interview does get put online and what it is all about.

Banning Tucker Carlson form visiting the EU was already brought up by

"Guy Verhofstadt, a former Belgian Prime Minister and current member of the European Parliament, told Newsweek.

The lawmaker—who has called for the EU to explore imposing a "travel ban" on Carlson—described Carlson as "a mouthpiece" of former President Donald Trump and Putin, adding: "As Putin is a war criminal and the EU sanctions all who assist him in that effort, it seems logical that the External Action Service examine his case as well.""

It goes to show he doesn't know what he's talking about, he is quoted as saying. "As Putin is a war criminal." Being accused and found guilty are two different things, show me where Putin was found guilty of war crimes in a court of law.

I got an interesting pm a little while ago and will not say who sent it, I figured I would reply to him here. The pm said why do I disagree with people in public and does that not hurt the board, and the example quoted was Tacnet in this thread. You see I respect Adrian and his opinions (and I hope the feeling is mutual) we do often argue our points in public, but there is a difference between making your opinion heard and becoming personal or rude. I hope that answers your question.

Peace.

Absolutely the feeling is mutual. Nothing wrong with a good debate and although I dont always agree with you, we do respect each others opinions and thats what its all about at the end of the day.

Glad to say most people Ive met on this board are very respectful

OK let me ask you this, do you think we should sit down and talk to Hamas ? Or Isis or even Bin Laden when he was alive ?? I dont think many people would agree that someone like Tucker Carlson should be doing interviews with the leaders of Hamas and broadcasting it all over the world

Putin attacked one of our allies just like Hamas have done with Israel. He has slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians and if we dont stand up for our allies then what is the point in having allies in the first place ???
