how come we recognize the one China policy and still send Taiwan weapons

If we recognize the one China policy then why are we sending weapons and supporting Taiwanese independence movement, isn't this a hypocrisy and going to put us into a direct war with China?

Do we really need another major war far form our shores for other peoples' issues?

When it comes to what powers your computers, cell phones, and hypersonic missiles, there's a tiny minority of those who do it best. They're sitting in Taiwan. The best and most innovative engineers for semiconductors are on that island.

The best machines that make those semiconductors are made in Amsterdam, and are shipped to those engineers in Taiwan.

China has been ok at copying designs, but not so great when it comes to designing the next generations in chips. So just as China wanted Hong Kong back for the finance center, they want Taiwan for the tech center.

Taiwan produces over 60% of the world's semiconductors and over 90% of the most advanced ones. Most are produced by a single company, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) which is one of the top targets for Chinese intelligence agencies and cyber attacks

If China get's their hands on Taiwan then they will have control over the cost of pretty much every electric car, mobile phone, computer etc in the world. And bear in mind China is NOT a democracy, its a dictatorship which means all that power will rest with one man, President Xi

That's why we cant allow China to take Taiwan

I remember back in the 90's we were manufacturing chips in the US. Bringing chip manufacturing back to the US is a wise decision. Perhaps Taiwan won't rank as high on our list in the future. Time will tell.

Hopefully the meeting between Biden and President Xi is an indication that relations are thawing. China's economy is in no fit state to support a war with the west right now and the US has enough on its plate with Russia and the middle east

Why aren't we making our own high tech chips and not relying on Taiwan?

I dont think Russia or China will embark on an all out war with the US (which would also trigger an all out war with NATO)

However, the US and EU have one fatal weakness that both China and Russia are learning to exploit. We are democracies with a free press !. Both countries have learned that they can use cyber attacks, miss-information and now even AI to manipulate our elections. Russia has been caught doing this twice in the US and UK and China are not far behind.

Both countries have stated that democracy doesn't work and I predict that we will see a huge wave of election tampering in the coming US election. Russia obviously wants Trump to take power because then they win the war in Ukraine
