Who's using .webp over .jpg ?
Who's using .webp over .jpg ?
Just wondered how many of your are using google's .webp images instead of .jpg, .png or gifs ???
Apparently its got around 97% browser coverage now and the file sizes are tiny compared to jpg, gif or png
Been doing some tests and it really boosts your page speed scores (which is now a ranking factor for google)

Most of the time I use .jpg or .png this webp looks interesting got to go read up on it. smaller file sizes are always good for page load times.

I have been using .webm and .webp since last year, a very good way to upload content and save on file sizes.
Just an observation some scripts still require .gif and .jpeg images for upload
Yeah i read that too. I think most scripts upload in jpg or gif format and then convert with google''s cwebp
Great if your a new site but we must have over half a million different sized update thumbnails all in .jpg format. Will take months to convert

Anyway I finally plucked up the courage yesterday and switched on our new 2023 design for https://www.tacamateurs.com/. All webp based except for the update thumbs
Its made a huge difference to the page speed scores
well worth looking into especially as page speed is now a high ranking factor on google

i know this is probably bullshit. some images don't show for me. i look and web fucking p
According to caniuse, 96.3% of browsers currently support the WebP image format. That would include Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. The WebP image format is not supported only by Internet Explorer 11 and the KaiOS browser. However, both browsers account for just 0.577% of the market share
