1. Choose a theme with minimal things which suit your needs not a Do it all theme with 20000 css/js files inbuilt.
2. Choose a good hosting
3. Upload optimized images .

Here is my tip use webp and webm content,delete any plugins that are not really important, minimize the weight of the top image. Some blogs use a top image that is so heavy it is a joke.
