[BUSINESS] how cloud hosting killed off traditional hosting

I was talking with a friend last night, he was into traditional old school hosting, a rep at one of the companies that was big in adult about 20 years ago. And he got laid off because the company reorganized and eventually sold, he said something interesting and I agree. In the old days you had bare metal servers, colocation, managed hosting. Yeh shared and vps too. Then cloud popped up and started getting market share, so many companies ended up either closing up, going cloud or sold.

tell me if you agree with this.

There will always be companies offering dedicated servers, ,may be for a little higher price but as long as there is a demand so the services will meet the demand.

I buy bare metal servers all the the time.

Cloud companies have larger profits and advertise more. It only seems like they have taken over.

most cloud companies are really just renting bare bones servers from someone, until they get their own,
then they are still renting connections and space, etc.

companies go under all the time.

most likely it was a buy out our the company was poorly managed.

or both.

Half of what is sold today as cloud is same as vps was sold years ago , from a management standpoint cloud is much better for everyone.

cloud hosting is not to host a site. its to hold the bulk of media
