CDC has put out a guidance on masks to wear, sharing the article here for every one to see.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been providing the public with safety guidelines since the pandemic started. These recommendations have helped people all across the country reduce their risk of infection from COVID—particularly if the guidelines are followed in full. Sure, a mask will protect you, but only if it follows all the proper recommendations from the agency on fit, material, and more. For its part, the CDC explicitly warns against six different forms of face masks, as they are not recommended to protect against the coronavirus. Read on to find out which masks you shouldn't be using, and for more from the agency, The CDC Just Gave a Shocking COVID Vaccine Update.

1
Masks that do not fit properly

The CDC says your mask needs to fit properly, which means it should fit "snugly around the nose and chin with no large gaps around the sides of the face."

Leann Poston, MD, a licensed physician and health advisor for Invigor Medical, says this is because properly fitting masks are the only ones that effectively stop large droplets that could spread and infect someone. Furthermore, masks that don't fit properly require the wearer to frequently touch their face and masks to readjust, and "touching your face can cause you to become infected and it also increases the spread of germs when you touch other objects after touching your mask," Poston explains. And for more on the limitations of masks, If You're Not Doing This, Your Mask Won't Protect You, Study Says.

2
Masks made from materials that are hard to breathe through

Plastic and leather are two materials the CDC wants mask wearers to steer away from because they are hard to breathe through.

"If a mask is hard to breathe through, you will breathe around it which defeats the purpose of a mask. When you cough or sneeze, the droplets will travel around the mask or drip down from the bottom surface of the mask," Poston says. And if your plastic or leather mask is too tight to breathe around, then it will not filter your breath, but instead block airflow, which may harm your breathing. And for coronavirus symptoms to be aware of, learn The Earliest Signs You Have COVID, According to Johns Hopkins.

3
Masks made from loosely woven fabric or that are knit

If your mask lets light pass through when held up to a light source, then the CDC says it shouldn't be used. Just like masks that do not fit, masks with loosely woven or knit material will allow respiratory droplets to pass through and infect the wearer, says Daniel Burnett, MD, chief executive officer for JustAir, a face mask and clear air systems company.

Even worse, Burnett says, loose mesh can "break the respiratory droplets into smaller droplets that can stay airborne for a longer period of time," which may provide a longer exposure period. And for coronavirus signs you shouldn't ignore, This Is One of the Most "Easily Overlooked" COVID Symptoms, Experts Warn.

4
Masks with one layer

The CDC says your mask should have at least two or three layers. Abisola Olulade, MD, a family medicine physician with Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group in California, says this is because they are more likely to filter out particles than masks with only one layer. Olulade says your mask should ideally have three layers: an innermost layer made of water-absorbing material, a middle filter layer, and then an outer layer that is made of water-resistant material. And for more up-to-date information, sign up for our daily newsletter.

5
Masks with exhalation valves or vents

The CDC does not recommend masks with valves or vents because, while they may make it easier to breathe, they don't help stop the spread of COVID. Roopa Kalyanaraman Marcello, MPH, an infectious disease expert based in New York City, says these masks allow respiratory droplets to escape from the wearer, which can infect other people. In fact, some cities, counties, and most major U.S. airlines have banned these face masks. And for precautions you no longer need to take, discover The One Thing You Can Stop Doing to Avoid COVID, According to Doctors.

6
Masks that are actually a scarf or ski mask

"Scarves and other headwear such as ski masks and balaclavas used for warmth are usually made of loosely knit fabrics that are not suitable for use as masks to prevent COVID-19 transmission," says the CDC. According to Poston, these have the same drawbacks as an improperly fitting mask in that they don't really filter droplets and they most likely need frequent readjustment. However, you can wear these items over your mask—you just need to be wearing some type of protective mask also. And for more essential mask guidance, The FDA Issued a Warning Against This Kind of Face Mask."

Interesting news on administrating a single of the Pfizer vacinne from Israel

https://www.yahoo.com/news/israel-warni ... 13138.html

"The Israeli official leading the country's coronavirus response warned that it is seeing a smaller effect than it hoped after giving a dose of the vaccine.

The nation has had the world's fastest vaccine rollout, and as of January 19 had given a first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to 25.6% of its population, per Our World in Data.

But a note of caution came from Nachman Ash, Israel's coronavirus commissioner, who told Israel's Army Radio that a single dose appeared to be "less effective than we had thought," according to The Guardian.

The vaccine is designed to come in two shots, with the second dose given three weeks after the first in clinical trials. This is how Israel is distributing the vaccine.

But the strategy raises concerns for the UK, which is prioritizing giving people the first dose of the vaccine.

This means delaying second doses by as much as 12 weeks so that as many people as possible can get their first dose one. The hope is that partial immunity among many people is better than fuller immunity for fewer people."

Montreal Quebec researchers might have found an effective drug already in use to fight Covid-19

https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/quebec-rese ... -1.5279310

"MONTREAL -- A team of researchers from the Montreal Heart Institute believes they have found an effective weapon against COVID-19: colchicine, an oral tablet already known and used for other diseases.

For Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, who led the study, this is a "major scientific discovery" and colchicine is the first "effective oral drug to treat out-of-hospital patients."

"To be able to offer this, from Quebec, and for the planet, we are very happy," said Tardif.

The ColCorona study involved 4,159 patients whose diagnosis of COVID-19 had been proven by a nasopharyngeal test (PCR).

Analysis of the study found that colchicine resulted in reductions in hospitalizations by 25 per cent, the need for mechanical ventilation by 50 per cent, and deaths by 44 per cent.

"This is the first hope for patients who have COVID, who are worried and who hope that they will not have complications, there were no tablets that could be taken by mouth and reduce the risks," said Tardif.

Doctor Tardif believes that prescribing the drug could help reduce congestion in hospitals quickly and reduce health-care costs here as elsewhere.

"Our study showed the effectiveness of treatment using colchicine to prevent the phenomenon of the major inflammatory storm and reduce complications related to COVID-19," said Tardif.

Colchicine could be used very quickly to treat people with COVID-19, the researcher says.

"Colchicine is old as it is, we've been treating gout with it for hundreds of years, so it's available in pharmacies, so any doctor tomorrow who reads this can definitely decide to prescribe if he wants."

On Friday evening, Premier Francois Legault called the study "big news" on social networks.

In the spring, Legault said the Colcorona study was one of the largest studies in the world to fight the virus.

The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was deployed in Canada, the United States, Europe, South America and South Africa.

"It was a double-blind study, meaning neither the patient, nor the team that ran the study including me, knew whether the patient was taking the placebo or the drug, there was just a group, independent from us, which was aware," explained Tardif.

"We are very proud of the work accomplished, it is a clinically convincing result," he said adding that he assembled a spectacular team from all over Quebec including microbiologists, intensivists, statisticians, computer scientists and epidemiologists,

The Centre de Coordination des Essais Cliniques de Montréal (MHICC) of the Montreal Heart Institute coordinated the study.

Which vaccine, how old was he/she, did they have underlying health issues???????

"A person who received a COVID-19 vaccine died hours after receiving the dose, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say the person tested positive in late December and received the vaccine Thursday. The county’s public health department did not administer the vaccine. Officials said several agencies are investigating the cause of death. " There are multiple local, state, and federal agencies actively investigating this case; any reports surrounding the cause of death are premature, pending the outcome of the investigation," the sheriff's office said."

In California now we have our own strain of the covid-19 virus named CAL.20C

"Mary Papenfuss·Trends Reporter, HuffPost
Mon, January 25, 2021, 3:31 AM

The U.S. now has its very own COVID-19 variant and scientists believe the burgeoning strain is likely linked to the surge in cases in Los Angeles County.

Two independent research groups discovered the strain in California while seeking the more contagious, possible more deadly, British variant in the state. Although the researchers found the UK strain ― B.1.1.7 ― in scattered cases in Los Angeles, San Diego and San Bernardino counties, they weren’t expecting to discover a homegrown variant.

The California variant ― CAL.20C - was barely detectable in early October, researchers from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles said. But by late December, it accounted for 24% of virus samples taken from southern California patients and about 36% of tested Los Angeles samples.

The strain, scientists warned in their research report, “may be partially responsible for the magnitude of the surge in COVID-19 on the West Coast.”

Los Angeles County has emerged as one of the nation’s coronavirus hotspots. By mid-January, the county reported more than 1 million COVID-19 cases and nearly 14,000 deaths. More than two-thirds of the cases have occurred since the beginning of November, which is about the time or shortly after that scientists said the California variant took off.

The variant has also been detected in northern California, New York, Washington, D.C., and outside the country in Oceania.

While scientists suspect the strain is more contagious, they don’t yet know if it’s more dangerous or lethal, or if vaccines will be as effective against it."

So simple even a child can tell you. Hygiene, masks and social distancing. The only3 things you can do to help yourself and others from catching this virus and other diseases. When I go out I see people too close to each other, that is the main problem.

Absolutely what they should NOT do, the daily positive test results have halved from over 3000 new cases to around 1500, so the measures in place are working, open places up too soon, the numbers will go up again, this round of closures will have been a waste of time. They have done this a few times since last January. Do it right for once, if the shit is working extend it. Why keep closing and re-opening things.
and people who complain about the measures being "Inconvenient" are the ones who have not got sick, died or had a loved one go through the thing and or died. People are dying everyday , if we can reduce this thing to a manageable level or wipe it out, let's inconvenience ourselves for a few more months. I have lost an aunt and 2 friends to this, it is not what I wish on anyone, so let's not rush to go back to increasing the deaths.

Social distancing?

"JERUSALEM (AP) — Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Israelis on Sunday thronged the funeral of a prominent rabbi in Jerusalem, flouting the country's ban on large public gatherings during the pandemic.

The funeral procession for Rabbi Meshulam Soloveitchik, who died at age 99, wended its way through the streets of Jerusalem in the latest display of ultra-Orthodox Israelis' refusal to honor coronavirus restrictions. Police estimated that more than 10,000 people joined the procession and said they had issued dozens of tickets for failing to heed lockdown rules."

Of course they had to go open things up again starting Monday February 8th, major easing of restriction in Quebec come Monday, now wait another month see the numbers climb back up. This is what places do , shut down for a short while as soon as numbers start declining re-open.....

Just stick it out for another month or 2 get this pandemic under control.

This cycle will never end. We have been doing it for a year now, just do it right for once. You close up and numbers go down hang in there, otherwise it was all a big waste of time and inconvenience for people.

Bloomberg report suggest covid-19 can last another 7 years.

" Haring
Sat, February 6, 2021, 12:00 PM

Because of the slow and disjointed rollout of vaccinations, the Covid-19 pandemic could last seven more years if distribution continues at its current rate.

A gloomy calculation from Bloomberg shows it could take most of a decade using two-dose vaccines for herd immunity to be reached. Previous calculations by White House chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci claimed 70-85 percent of the population will need the vaccine in order to achieve herd immunity.

Currently, the US is on track for that mark to be reached by 2022. But serious distribution complications and lack of vaccines in other countries are far from that figure.

Bloomberg says Western and wealthier countries are reaching 75% coverage, but others are far behind. Israel will hit 75% coverage by spring. But Portugal could take four years to reach that mark, China seven year, and Canada almost ten years at the current distribution pace.

The media outlet admits that its calculations are based on current conditions and could adjust as distribution lines improve. Canada, for one example, has faced delays in shipments, but has huge backorders for supplies that could speed up its time line.

Bloomberg also noted production is just beginning in manufacturing hubs, and only a third of countries have vaccine campaigns.

The calculations are based on two doses for full vaccination. Johnson & Johnson is rolling out a one-dose vaccine, which can cut times."
