If it was up to me we would go into a full shut down of everything but food and drug stores for 8 weeks. There is no alternative to controlling this pandemic.

Jeez we broke another record today, over 5 million corinavirus cases.

"(CNN)The US topped 5 million cases of coronavirus early Sunday -- and as experts have highlighted before, the true number of infections could be many times higher.
The number means the country holds about a quarter of global cases of the virus and also tops the list with the most reported deaths in the world. Of the country's 5,000,603 estimated cases, 162,441 have been deadly, according to data collected by John Hopkins University.
The pandemic shows no sign of slowing, and health officials have urged the use of face masks in public places and pleaded with residents to avoid social gatherings until the spread is under control.
Track the virus

As of this week, five states account for more than 40% of US infections: California (with the most cases in the country), Florida, Texas, New York and Georgia.

New York, once the country's epicenter, has been surpassed by several states that have seen cases spikes in recent months. The state now reports a positivity rate -- how many people are testing positive compared to how many were tested -- of about 0.93%, according to the governor's office.
"Despite increasing infection rates across the country and in our region, we continue to see our numbers hold at low levels, all thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers to change their behavior and our data-driven, phased reopening," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement Saturday.
California, reporting more than 7,000 cases Saturday for a total of more than 545,000, had a positivity rate of about 6% over the past two weeks, according to health officials. Hospitalizations across the state are dropping, and there are about 5,746 hospitalized patients -- down more than 1,000 from two weeks ago.
In Texas, the governor extended his disaster declaration as the state reported its highest seven-day positivity rate: 19.41%. The previous high, 17.43%, was recorded around mid-July. More than 481,000 infections have been reported statewide and about 7,872 people remain in hospitals. "

If a person gets tested 2 times and both times his test is positive, does it show in the stats as 1 person infected or 2 people.

Russia claims to have made a vaccine, is it true or a pr stunt, would you take it, how safe is it, how come they came out with one first.

"Moscow (CNN)Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the approval of a coronavirus vaccine for use on Tuesday, claiming it as a "world first," amid continued concern and unanswered questions over its safety and effectiveness.
"A vaccine against coronavirus has been registered for the first time in the world this morning," Putin said on state TV. "I know that it works quite effectively, it forms a stable immunity."
"I hope our foreign colleagues' work will move as well, and a lot of products will appear on an international market that could be used."
The vaccine -- developed by the Moscow-based Gamaleya Institute -- has been named Sputnik-V. The name is a reference to the surprise 1957 launch of the world's first satellite by the Soviet Union.

The treatment is yet to go through crucial Phase 3 trials where it would be administered to thousands of people.
Putin added that one of his daughters had already taken it; he said she had a slightly higher temperature after each dose, but that: "Now she feels well.""

We are the first state to reach 600,000 coronavirus cases, this is not good news.

"California reaches a grim milestone

Thursday was the 18th consecutive day the US had more than 1,000 deaths. The US also reported another 51,000 new cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.

California became the first state to top 600,000 cases.

The White House Coronavirus Task Force blasted Georgia for its rising infection rates and urged the state to adopt a mask mandate, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“You can’t run away from the numbers,” Fauci said. “You can’t run away from the numbers of people who’ve died, the number of people getting hospitalized, the surges we’re seeing.”

Dr. Tom Inglesby of Johns Hopkins said on CNN on Friday, “It’s doing very substantial damage to the country,” urging continued use of face coverings, social distancing, and hand washing."

The original estimate of 200k plus deaths this year was right, they down graded it but as the lock downs went away the infected and deaths started mushrooming up.
