"According to a U.K. study, a single dose of Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE) - BioNTech SE's (NASDAQ: BNTX) coronavirus vaccine may not generate a sufficient immune response to protect against dominant new variants, except in people who have already been infected with COVID-19, reports Reuters.
The Imperial College-led study, which analyzed blood samples among healthcare workers after their first dose of the Pfizer shot, found that those who previously had the infection showed better protection against virus variants found in Britain and South Africa.
After a first dose of the shot, the immune response was weaker in people who had not previously been infected, potentially leaving them at risk from such variants, researchers leading the work said.
It was observed that, after a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, a boosted immune response in the shape of T-cells, B-cells, and neutralizing antibodies was associated with prior infection.
The study highlights the importance of getting second doses of the vaccine rolled out to protect the population. There would be a "window of vulnerability" for people between first and second doses."

You need the 2nd dose of the vaccine, so if you are getting one shot make sure you do the 2nd one.

How much is it costing the government per dose?
If enough people get the vaccine then herd immunity will kick in and I am starting to see hope that this pandemic will taper off by the end of this year.
If some do not take the vaccne they are putting themselves and others at risk, it is selfish and bad.

why does this not surprise me, covid-19 cases sky rocketed after Spring break
"Variant COVID-19 infections skyrocketed following spring break in Florida and there have been more than 10,000 variant cases reported throughout the state, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported based on data from the Florida Department of Health.
A total of 753 variant cases from three strains -- the B.1.1.7, the P.1, and the B. 1.3.5.1. -- were reported on March 14, according to variant infection data shared with ABC News. The Florida Department of Health does not disclose variant cases on its public dashboard.
That number swelled to 5,177 cases from five types of variants on April 15. Just two weeks later, the number of variant infections exploded to 9,248 on April 27, according to local ABC affiliate , WFTV.
The surge falls in line with mid-March into April spring break celebrations, when college students and vacationers flock to the sunshine state.
Florida is home to the most variant COVID-19 cases in the country. State health officials reported more than 11,800 cases of COVID-19 variants on Wednesday, according to the Sun Sentinel."

People do not think about their actions, no wonder this pandemic is not coming to an end. Avoid large gatherings and close contacts, so simple really.TheButcher wrote: ↑May 9th, 2021, 9:18 amwhy does this not surprise me, covid-19 cases sky rocketed after Spring break

One of the very few shows I watch is Real Time with Bill Maher and it is cancelled tonight because he has tested positive for Covid-19, the article said he gets weekly testing and was fully vaccinated. All the best to Bill.
How come New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres tested positive for Covid-19 and he had the virus and is fully vaccinated, plus
7 other team mates have tested positive too and they were vaccinated, what is the point of the vaccine then.

How many of the millions that had the vaccine got infected, it i still the best option to get the vaccine.
