My experience has been desktops last longer just because of the space in them for cooling. Laptops are more versatile but packing all that hardware in a tight space cause heat problems. Plus laptops cost more than desktops to start with. If it wasn't for my son giving me his MacBook AIR when my Mackbook crapped out after 8 years I would have bought a desktop. I love these MacBook laptops but after all they are very thin, all that heat inside is what cooks hardware eventually as opposed to a desk top which has so much space between the components.

The timing was great he had just ordered a MacBook Pro and was about to sell his old Air online, when mine conked out he said here dad have it.

Unless you play online games, which I never have played, a $350 desk top is more than adequate for this stuff we do.

My 1 cent on the topic

You can buy a desktop for $300 without a monitor if all you do is work from home.

What he said :-) If you want a good tool to get the job done; desktop for sure. I use a cheap laptop for traveling, if it breaks or gets lost I just buy a new one;-)
