I made millions with the domain back then. Selling it then would have been ignorant and short sighted.
I leased it out for years and made over a million. So why sell for a million when you can lease it for a million and still own it?
DOH!

Now that the dust has settled, it time to make the easy money from the domain and not from the site on the domain.
Or I could develop the site again and make millions more, again!

Oh yeah and taxes on a lease are much less than taxes on a big one time sale.

I turned down $1.2 million from Hugh, because the taxes were going to be about half the money.
Capital gains tax was 35% for over a million federal.
My state capital gains tax is 25% for over a million.
So for 1 million that is 350K plus 250K in taxes, thus I get to keep $400k after tax.
Who does that? NO ONE!
Actually makes better sense to sell for under a million and lower the tax liability and then get to keep more money after taxes.

Maybe my tax guy sucks? Dunno. Not to many tax people that deal with million dollar deals.

The rich pay the majority of the taxes, so selling back then would have been ignorant. Especially when I was making several hundred thousand a month at times. (Not often, but it did happen.)
