Default What's the right thing to do with a deceased board member

With the unfortunate passing of Mike aka Compdoctor I don't know what the right thing to do with his contacts and links.

Is it proper to remove his icq, email and links from his profile incase anyone tries to contact him and doesn't know he has passed away?
Is it best to not touch his links?

I'm asking because I don't want to do anything wrong and incase his loved ones might be reading his emails/icq and get hurt by people trying to contact him.

What would be the right thing to do to respect his memory and his family?

Butcher,

I had to deal with this very topic last year; when a longtime (30+ year) friend died of cancer last November.

You should talk to his loved ones about it; and if anything, make a seperate area of the forum in order that it won't get buried under posts. That way if his loved ones still wanted to keep the site/contact list alive, they could do so with ease.

Or perhaps editing his information to "no longer available, contact admin" or something to that effect if you prefer to be more discrete.

I feel it would be appropriate to edit all outside contact information delete icq, e-mail, any links.

I think leaving his screen name active Gives him full respect and keeps him a part of the board memory, there will just be no way to contact him.

Here is a thought, We could all chip in with content, stories, etc. and do a memorial for him.

And when it is up, send the link to his family and maybe they will want to add to it.

I'd say something like this would be fitting under the circumstances mate

Compdoctor - Sadly has passed on to a better place. We remember you our friend.

And no don't go contacting his family it's not what they would appreciate, some board people emailing them or anything.

I agree

But I would not contact his family

I'm not sure to what extent his family knew his adult connection

I certainly wouldn't want anyone contacting my family!!

100% with you on that one mate. His family should not be contacted by strangers from the boards.
